I skimmed through the book again earlier today. I got the impression he was just stabbed in the neck...
In fact, I have it right by me right now, and I'll check again. Yep...you see him in the next panel, and he still has his hands...

I think it's because of HOW he does it, and why. He himself does not agree with certain things, but he's not out gay bashing, or anything like that. He sure rants about stuff and he sometimes slips out cringe worthy comments, but he is pretty much completely focused on striking down those who kill, maim and molest. Gah, I am going to stop or this is going to turn into a full tilt ramble!

Most of the over the top violence I didn't mind, and REALLY thought most of the ass kicking done(Rorsch, Dan and Laurie) was just pretty and engaging...but the hand thing. Christ does Zach have a armless fat man fetish or something???

I mean, I guess it makes sense or whatever since they're trying to get into his cell and the dude's, er, in the way, and in the comic they just cut his throat and that didn't really help the problem but I DIDN'T NEED TO SEE THAT THX VERY MUCH. D: Blimey. ZS is nuts.

Agreed. The second time I saw the movie I looked down at my popcorn for a second during that scene, and I'm not even squemish. Then I of course looked back up to catch all the Rorschach goodness. :)

They would have a lot of bumps in the relationship. D:

However, if they could put their differences aside I'm sure they could learn to appreciate each others sense of justice.

Also Rorshach could bum a room in Batman's mansion and maybe take a shower now and then(if he wants to). :B
