I agree completely. Buying anime on DVD's and buying manga is a waste of money when you can just download it for free online anyway. I think it's merely the principle that it's ONE object for alot of money or LOTS for little amounts that add up.

Yeah, but if your computer dies you're screwed and gotta find everything all over again.

But then, you have the same problem with the hard copies if your house burns down. Er.

I think the main difference is that doll collectors are less likely to go "omg need every volume of every series ever". I don't own more than two dozen manga and half a dozen DVDs, myself.

...actually, I should probably find Tuxedo Gin online then, because no way in hell am I going to try to find all whatever-ridiculous-number volumes IRL.

Er, I'm all for piracy in moderation, but some people actually do like seeing creators get paid so they'll actually continue to produce stuff...

Or you know, they want to actually support the people making these things? I hate this logic because it's silly to think you should download for free because it's there and being illegal on top of that.

Yeah, there's absolutely no reason to pay for anime or manga -- except for, you know, supporting the people who make it. Plus, as a would-be professional translator, I like to think that the more money I put into this stuff, the more chance there'll still be an industry for me to work in by the time I graduate college. It's not looking good right now.

(Which is not to say I put crazy amounts of money into anime; I Netflix things first and if I like it enough, I buy it next time I've got a little spare cash. Or at least buy a volume or two.)

Except that it's illegal and people want to give money to the people to actually make the product, dumbass.

Also, that much anime/manga isn't really common. Maybe over the span of 20 years for the average fan, but all at one time? No. Blowing $20-$40 a month for a couple of volumes of manga/anime =/= blowing $200 dollars for one doll.

And it's all about how you use it anyway - if you're using your rent/bills money on your hobby, whether it's anime or those dolls, it's generally agreed you're fucked in the head.

Um, scuse? Don't be a twat. Some people like DVD quality. Some people like to hold manga and books in their hands. And most people who aren't dicks? Like to actually show appreciation for the people who make this shit for us.

I can totally get not spending money on stuff when there's obvious price-gouging, or the translations are ridiculously sub-par. There are several manga where I will never buy the official English versions, because they suck so bad it's almost offensive. And I refuse to pay $20+ for a DVD with three episodes on it.

But if I like a manga, and it has a decent official translation, I want something I can hold in my hands. And if I like an anime, I may download the episodes or watch them online first, but when I have the money to spare, I'm going to buy them, slowly but surely. Because I appreciate the hard work of the people involved and the fact that they're actually providing these things that I enjoy, and I'm not a smug, entitled brat.

First, entitlement whore much? Try enjoying your anime and manga when it doesn't exist anymore.

Secondly, I've seen your dolls. Try buying fewer of them and making the ones you have look less fug before you bitch about not spending money on DVDs and manga.
