133. I liked Bela okay right up until that irritating end for her, not the least of which because I feel like "This character's life was entirely fucked over by their childhood sexual abuse!" is such a lousy, lazy and annoyingly sexist plot device. (Really, how many male characters do they do that to?)

But the flashbacks to her past turned me off her in a big way and just completely ruined every rewatch I've attempted of the episodes she's in. They didn't give us any indication she was learning everything she needed to to turn into the level of con woman she was before the demon made the deal with her, which means she managed in less than ten years to turn herself into a better thief than two characters who've been trained to con practically since birth so that they could go into the family business. I want to think that if the writer's strike hadn't gotten in the way we would have gotten more development than Bela Sue, the bestest prettiest thief in the whole wiiiide world.

That said, she's maybe the only female character I don't like on there, with the possible exception of the current version of Ruby, only because Genevieve Cortese still bothers me sometimes in the role. Hell, Jo even grew into the character I knew she could become and wanted to watch ... right before they got rid of her. *grumbles*

Woah, what? Bela was sexually abused?
Okay, I completely missed that. I thought her parents were just like... ignoring her, etc.
Wow. Now I feel REALLY slow :/


Other than that, IAWTC so much.
Jo got to be pretty awesome, and Ruby's creepy seductive smile thing at Sam in OTHOAP kind of turned me off her a bit.

There was a shot of her as a teenager sitting on a bed looking terrified while a guy in a suit (which was supposed to be her dad, given the circumstances) closes the bedroom door. That's classic "sexual abuse" hint-dropping. (Don't feel bad, though. IIRC, a lot of people missed that shot when it first aired or didn't even get it was supposed to mean that. I think that entire storyline got screwed over in the telling royally by the writer's strike, so we got these flashes of her past that confused a lot of people.)

My big problem with Jo was that I felt that if she wanted to be a hunter, then for God's sake, you're free and 18, move out. Pissing and moaning because your mother won't let you do something when you're a grown woman is insulting. If your parents say, "Not under my roof," MOVE UNDER ANOTHER ROOF. I was so happy to find out she'd moved out and away from the Roadhouse, and then we never really got to see her in action. Pity, that. (Well, except for the oh-so-fun victimizing. That was lovely.)

I don't think Ruby would be bothering me so much right now if Katie Cassidy were still playing her, or if Genevieve had been playing her from the start. The shift in actresses altered the character, so occasionally she makes me wince now. I do like where they're going with the character and the season in general, though.
