ayrt - if you want to see a show do really well with a below-the-knees amputee character, watch the old Highlander: The Series for Joe Dawson. Joe was played by the astounding musician/actor Jim Byrnes who is an actual below-the-knees amputee in real life so it was handled extremely well on the show in the writing and of course, hiring disabled people to play disabled characters is the best method. (In the show, Joe lost his legs in Vietnam, but Byrnes lost his in a car accident IRL). But as a kid growing up with a cane, seeing a cool, hot man on my TV doing cool, action and romance things with a cane, it meant everything.

Now is this series based on the books where the killer is a transphobic boogeyman? Because I don't think I'm up for all that, no matter how well the disability is handled.

NAYRT

Yes, this is the series with the transphobic boogeyman, and a lot of other gross aspects as well. There’s also the female lead being basically an NLOG in the books, and which the show toned down a lot.

Honestly, the books are pretty bad, and boring, formulaic, and unimaginative at their best. So I wouldn’t recommend them at all. The show had no where to go but up compared to the source material, so it’s no wonder it’s so much better.

Joe Dawson was the best.
