Very reasonable

Googled, and 2017 Ms Hardbroom is kinda disturbingly hot. Goddammit, FS, stop making me question things about myself.

There is a LOT of f/f fic about the teachers from that series, if I recall correctly.

If that's the kind of thing you might be interested in.

I mean, it's an all-girl school with a 98% female staff. Of course there's F/F fic. And Miss Hardbroom at least is absolutely not straight, judging by her reaction to a) any and all men and b) Miss Pentangle in the new series.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-18 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I think her queerness is canon in the new series with her friendship with Indigo going beyond just friends. You know, before the incident.

Unfortunately, just because something is full of possibilities for f/f fic, it does not necessarily follow that there is going to be lots of f/f fic

And in the 80s movie version, Tim Curry sings in front of a green screen for special occasions. Either way, you've made the correct choice.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-18 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Everything is better with the addition of Tim Curry.

the 80s movie WAS my Hogwarts, and most of my early criticisms of Harry Potter were just 'well it's no Worst Witch, I tell you what'.

I absolutely unironically listen to that song at Halloween, too.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-18 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
It is the only Halloween song to reference Begin the Beguine.

I keep meaning to watch the 2017 version. The 90s series was my childhood. Not sure how I feel about Constance Hardbroom becoming Hecate Hardbroom, though. But she was easily my favourite character in the series as a kid. I was in absolute awe of her. Also slightly terrified, but you know.

And yes, Cackles would definitely be my first choice as well. Miss Cackle is a significantly better Headmistress, for a start, at least when she's actually her and not her evil twin playing pretend.

And if I was betting on Snape vs HB, in potions or a fight, I'm betting on HB.

I didn't even know there was a 2017 version! The 1998 one came out when I was in HS, and the Weirdsister College series just after I graduated but I still watched both lol.

Honestly as someone who is very attached to the 90s series (to the point where I used to be able to recite entire episodes by heart and could probably still dredge up most of it from my memory!) I can heartily recommend the 2017 series. It'll never quite have the same place in my heart as the 90s series and you do have to get past some things being different but it's still very good and the kids are far better actors than the 90s kids were.

Also, yeah - my money is on HB to win in any fight.

I used to read the books when I was a kid and Cackles was my dream school long before Hogwarts was ever thought up.

Is this about a British girls-only boarding school for witches? Middle school me would have been ALL over that

(Anonymous) 2022-02-18 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
It is. Imagine a book series about a kid who suddenly finds out they are magic and get to go live in a magic castle, get lessons on magic from quirky teachers, with a twinkly eyed head, and that one asshole teacher that just hates them.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-18 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
I liked both series!
It has a certain charm and tropeyness to it that i loved as a kid and now as an adult. Csn relate to the teachers as well. Miss Hardbroom was A+.

Aw I remember being a fan of the 90s series and watching it alongside Sabrina the teenage witch.
I kind of suspect that kid me didn't get into harry potter because I was already obsessed with those two shows (not to say that I never was into HP - I got curious in my teens since fan works from that fandom was just everywhere at the time on livejournal & deviantart and mainly read the books to get context to read the fabrics. Either way I agree Worst Witch is better)
