Mythago Wood maybe? I don't know. What sort of dark fantasy are you looking for?

Honestly I don't know. I've only just started getting into the genre. Just fantasy with horror tones, dark things happening, worldbuilding that is super dark.

I think the "big" dark fantasy series are Malazan Book of the Fallen, The Black Company, The First Law, and The Second Apocalypse. Out of those: Malazan is not bad but it's insanely long and often unbearably dry. The Black Company is good but it's definitely military fantasy which you may or may not be looking for. Same with First Law, and also it's quite edgy. And The Second Apocalypse I think is quite bad and wouldn't recommend.

Outside of those... Gormenghast maybe? Michael Moorcock if the Elric stuff looks good to you. Caitlin R. Kiernan is good, but might be too far on the side of horror. I think a lot of Martha Wells' earlier work counts as dark fantasy and she's a really good writer. IDK. Dark fantasy is kind of weird, it's a very amorphous genre.

So I do own the first Malazan book, although I haven't read it yet. I also own First Law. Been going back and forth about Black Company. I havent's heard about that last one, though. Or Gormenghast.
