Re: What time is it? Rant time!

I get this, and I'm in a risk group for Covid.

But people are not going to mask up indefinitely for us. It's on us to wear N95s or KN95s and not to go to indoor concerts and things. If there was still a mask mandate everybody in the movie theater would be wearing masks anyway, but if I'm the only one, so be it.

If I was in charge of the world, I'd make sure everybody who could be was vaxed and everyone took precautions and had good ventilation in schools, but wearing masks for a small minority that is at more risk was never going to happen long term.

But honestly...I'm still wearing a mask indoor in public areas until this becomes endemic and/or we know about all of the effects of Covid and long Covid. Even if it doesn't kill me, I don't need brain fog and weakness and all of the other things that people forget happens even for some "mild Omicron" victim. F that!

Yeah, I'm not even at risk and I'm still not planning to stop wearing a mask anytime soon for my own peace of mind. It's something I can do to protect myself, so why not?

Oh yeah, I'm obviously still wearing a mask, and the other folks I know are wearing their masks and have no intention of stopping. As I mentioned in an above comment, I've been basically doing covid protocol every winter for several years - except the masking. And tl;dr, a few years ago I still got a bug that left me bedridden for a month and sent me to the ER and I still don't have my strength back.

So I am very glad for masks in addition to my usual measures, and I will absolutely be avoiding large indoor events. Lifting mask mandates doesn't put me personally in much danger. But the fact that so many people are just completely ignoring the fact that there ARE some who are still at risk and not due to ignorance of science, and just going "Yay! Back to normal!" pisses me off, and not just on my own behalf. I am very worried about some of my friends, who are scared to death.

For me, it's not even about masking indefinitely for just the at risk groups. Covid is not endemic yet, meaning as soon as restrictions are relaxed, cases are going to go right back up. It's about the hospital system. That all of us use. This last surge has caused a slow collapse of several hospitals. We need as many people as possible to keep wearing masks so we don't have these surges until covid DOES become endemic. And the longer we can make that process happen (and the longer we wear masks), the fewer people die or become permanently injured.
