I am not remotely punk, but Wiki says--

The punk ethos is primarily made up of beliefs such as non-conformity, anti-authoritarianism, anti-corporatism, a do-it-yourself ethic, anti-consumerist, anti-corporate greed, direct action and not "selling out".

I think AYRT is essentially saying that all trans people are inherently societally non-conformist by nature of the fact that they're trans, and therefore all trans people are punk. Personally I think it's a cool sentiment. Is it definitively True-with-a-capital-T? Nah, it's not that kind of a statement. But I still dig it.

They are in one way sure, but most trans people I know do not remotely meet any other part of that ethos.

YMMV. It made sense to me and I dig it.

It's not a question of it making sense or not. Punk is literally all of those things. Trans people are anti-establishment just by existing. That doesn't mean, as individual humans, that they also consciously have decided to embrace the rest of the stances that make up the punk ethos and it's ridiculous and reductive to say otherwise.

Can a trans person be punk? Of course. Are all trans people inherently punk? No.

How on earth is it ridiculous or reductive? How is it reductive, especially? I don’t really understand how you found offense in a comment where there wasn’t any that I can see, because ayrt is being completely innocuous in their comments.

This is like saying “Be Gay, Do Crime” is reductive. I think you’re reading too much into this, and assuming intent from ayrt to literally label all trans people as punk. Instead of the more likely interpretation of this being tongue in cheek, as a response to the similar light hearted tone of the secret.

Because it assumes all trans people must be the same, that's why it's reductive.

I guess.
