Prequel defenderism is not astroturfed. It definitely predates Disney buying the franchise. The reason it became more prominent is because prequel defenders generally tend to be younger than prequel haters.

And frankly I do sort of doubt Disney aggressively astroturfs stuff. It just seems like there are more than enough people willing to die to defend Disney and the MCU for free, so why bother paying for it? Their marketing definitely plays to fandom and leans into those tendencies but there's a difference between astroturfing and manipulative marketing.
