AYRT - Oh man, I always thought Angel/Liam was canonically supposed to have been eighteen or nineteen when he was turned. Now I find out he's canonically established to have been 26!

I honestly have so many more "uhh that's controversial" feelings from learning that Angel was 26/hundreds-of-years-undead when he got involved with 16yo Buffy than I ever had when I thought he was supposed to be 18/hundreds-of-years-undead. Lol!

there was that creepy flashback where Angel decided to start following Buffy around after spying on her sucking on a lollypop in the schoolyard for a bit.

OMG, I'm cackling. I honestly never would've framed it that way, and yet, your description is extremely accurate.

Honestly, no one was into BtVS for the wholesome romantic relationships.

IDK, I remember Buffy/Angel being very commonly characterized as True Love, and maybe not "wholesome" per se, but definitely pure and good and romantic--back in the late 90's and early 00's that is.

I myself was primarily a Spuffy shipper and was very much here for the fucked-up-ness of it all, but I shipped early-seasons Buffy/Angel, and most of the Bangel content I remember coming across at the time was very, like, Star-Crossed Tragic True Love.

I can remember an early 00s story that was, I think, primarily a Faith story, but Bangel was a main background pairing. Some characters were discussing the mechanics of vampire sex, and one of them said "It must be like fucking a popsicle" and that sentence has lived in the back of my skull ever since, just waiting for someone to bring up Bangel again.
