118. I don't care about the squid either way and can't stand discussions about it. It's the least important thing in the story. Hell, I think the plot is the least important thing in Watchmen, which was a problem the film ran into when it needed a driving narrative.

132. We do go through this "how can you fangirl X didn't you read/see source material" thing every few months though, don't we? Actually Rorschach doesn't bother me much. Most of the time, when fangirls are chasing the (often totally) evil and/or psychotic flavor of the month, they're characters that give off a "I am going to rape you or kill you, or more likely both" vibe (the Joker, Angelus, Comedian, etc.). Elevator shafts aside, Rorschach would honestly probably just insult and then ignore fangirls. He's at his most vicious against people who hurt women and children, so I doubt he'd rip off some teenybopper fan's face as soon as she looked at him like so many of these characters would. Plus they're all fictional.

138. Oh, god. I just realized I can't think about this movie without thinking about the "The Aristocrats" joke now.

You and me both. I pity my hypothetical children, who will never know why Mommy won't watch the cute musical kitties with them.

I'm of the opinion that lusting after unattainable fictional fucked up men is better than lusting after real fucked up men. It's not as if having a fetish for bad boys/bad girls is anything new.

Well, exactly, it's just a fantasy. I don't "get it" most of the time, but some people get so angry, like the girls in question are going to go out and date the Joker in real life. Maybe some do really have unhealthy tastes, but that's a whole other problem, and Heath Ledger isn't to blame.

Lusting after them is totally cool, especially for the reasons you mentioned. Completely disregarding the personality of the character makes me rage.

Yeah, I don't get that. Why lust after a certain character if you're just going to change what makes them interesting?

Oooh this. Even without the "lusting" part (which I do a lot anyway, only not always) I think evil/fucked up characters have some kind of a cathartic function. I sure as hell love a lot of fictional characters that I know I would despise in real life... but that's the beauty of fiction, it gives you things you'd never normally experience. *steps off soapbox*

132's OP here. I'm okay with fangirling over Rorschach.

It's turning him into a sexy piece of beefcake that makes me rage. The man is full of nothing but loathing for sexuality and promiscuity. It bothers me that people are willing to rape the character by depicting him having sex with random people (I'm not keen on Rorschach x Dan but at least it's vaguely feasible) and doing a fucking striptease, that kind of thing) just for fappability.
