But seriously, Watchmen fandom is a lose/lose situation if all the wank is actually true. If you happen to have seen the film but don't want to read the novel, then you suck. If you happen to have seen the film and have chosen to read the novel, then you're jumping on the bandwagon.

Oh plssss. I watched the film first and thought it was epic. I read the novel afterwards and thought it was epic. BUT I OBVIOUSLY ONLY LIKED IT FOR THE PRETTY. I'm just such a faker that way.

Amen to that. Because honestly? I hadn't even heard of Watchmen before the rumours about this movie were spiralling about. I think people need to stop apologising for not being aware of every awesome comic/book/TV show/film that ever existed. I bet half of these elitists will be "jumping on the bandwagon" of some other low-key, epic fandom somewhere down the line and then claiming they were true fangirls from the start. We're all jumping on the bandwagon. It's just that some people are jumping earlier than others.
