I can understand it if you're interpreting characters that way-- but that's also a bit different than it being a given that character A isn't going to like it because it says so in canon. Totally okay to write, probably fun to read, but it wouldn't make fics that don't do it any less valid, which was the feeling I was getting from your comment (intended or not).

What? I never said that, and I even tried to be specific that I wasn't sure if that's what you were saying.

You said: without consideration as to whether or not it would be in character for the character in question to have it. I took that to mean that in some cases, anal sex would be OOC. I asked for some examples, you said interpretation-- I said fine and dandy, but does that doesn't mean the fics that DON'T do it that way are wrong, since it's a matter of interpretation, as you said.

I'm trying to say that your interpretation that anal sex would be OOC doesn't make it wrong for other people to consider it to be IC-- specifically because we don't get to know that much about character's sexual lives, a lot of the time.

..Did I jump? I asked for clarification. I honestly just couldn't think of a situation, and you pretty much reassured me by saying that it's a matter of interpretation.

I said, very clearly, that I was just getting an impression off of your comment I wasn't sure you meant to give. You could have brushed it off, said "oh, no, that's not what I meant"-- but instead you got really defensive. We haven't even brought specific characters into it, but you seem quite up in arms about it-- IMO I've walked into something with you that's a sensitive topic, but it isn't for me.

Your problem is that you're saying "this is OOC for a character and those people are not taking that into account!" That is, whether you realize it or not, the same thing as saying "that character, canonically, would not have anal sex!" Which is where the confusion comes from. If you are saying that you personally don't think Character A would enjoy or ever have anal sex, that's your opinion. When you say "it's OOC for Character A to have anal sex," you are saying that it would, across the board, be out of character for them to have anal sex, and there is either clear or implied canon to back up that claim.

If you make claims of OOCness, you are saying it's out of character based on actual canon. "That character is OOC because that's what I think" isn't what OOC means. And yeah, you are actually being incredibly defensive here. You're not using OOC correctly; it's confusing them, and causing them to ask you for actual canon examples that would be required and available for an actual OOC claim. Blowing up at them for that is silly, because you saying that it's OOC for a character to like anal is saying that it's canon that the character doesn't like anal.
