You're VERY lucky! I miss my show so much, I really wish I could squee about it again. :(

Aw, I'm sorry. Hopefully, you'll get to like Castiel better as he gets more development. Is he - or by extension, the angel storyline - the only problem you're having with the show? Or is it more about the boys?

Oh, it's pretty much the whole show this season, it's a totally different feel then every other season, the boys are very different (I joke that they started over with two main characters this season and forgot to recast), it's...just not the show I signed on to watch. I miss THAT show.

I don't have anything huge against Castiel, per se, I just think he's completely unnecessary to the plot and that having another prominent character just shifts the focus further off Sam and Dean, who are what I love most about the show to begin with. And the only way to wedge Castiel into 17 episodes next season is to drastically change the show even MORE.

I understand where you're coming from. SPN isn't really about saving people, hunting things, the family business anymore - it's escalated, and I've heard a lot of fans saying that they miss the simplicity or the show has lost itself or, y'know, whatever. Me, I watched this show before Castiel came along, but it was never really an obsession. I stepped into fandom, joined some comms, read some Wincest, got bored and stepped right back out. This season, and Castiel, is what grabbed me and got me into fandom again.

I just think he's completely unnecessary to the plot

But... the plot is preventing the seals from being broken and stopping the apocalypse, and a big part of that plot is the angels. I think it's better to have one character, with a face and a personality and a dynamic with the leads, represent that storyline, instead of lots of separate angels who mean nothing. If one angel had raised Dean from hell, and another brought him back in time, and another told him to get out of town in 4x07, and yet another went after Anna, something would be lacking for me. I'd be wondering if the writers couldn't have consolidated all of these characters into one.

No. The plot is Sam and Dean's hero journey. The show is about two brothers traveling around the country in a classic car, hunting supernatural things.

And that has been completely lost this season.

*shrug* I think maybe we aren't going to agree on this. :)

iawtc. I miss "hey-I-almost-went-to-Stanford-law" Sam Winchester whose intelligence is as much of a tool as his occasional badass ~powers.

I really hated that they had him like gorge himself on Ruby's blood the last episode too. I'm fine with him tapping into his dark side and having that be bad, but it's like he's an entirely different character. I don't even know where or how he changed so much, but it's uneven storytelling.

I think they've been bringing Sam to that place for a long time. But now that storyline is getting lost in the larger Angels For The Win plot. Sam exploring his dark side no longer seems like his "destiny," (remember when that actually WAS a major plot point??), now it just seems like a plot device to get Dean and Castiel more screen time.

I still have faith in Sam though. We'll see what happens, I guess.

Yeah, I know, but I just wish we'd get some glimmers of his personality shining through. Basically every time he's on screen his killing demons with his mind, and that's all he's there for. Either that or making Dean all nervous-like.
