I’m a Trek fan, and I definitely don’t hate Roddenberry. He originated a universe of optimism and progress that legitimately saved my life.

However, Roddenberry, like any human being, had some flaws. He was definitely a bit of a misogynist. His ideals were progressive in his time but not necessarily considered so now, which has probably led to a lot of the hate.

That being said, I tend to see a lot more vitriol towards Rick Berman (rightfully so) than Roddenberry, but I know critics of Roddenberry exist.

Rick Berman was goddamn trash. Say what you like about Gene, but at least he had the balls to challenge the network and not cower behind what he thought they might deem too risky. Berman was always preemptively ceding to the network without ever being asked. Fuck him. And Kurtzman is not any better with his post 9/11 nihilism.

Oh I agree. Rick Berman is awful. Gene had his issues, but they are nowhere near the level of awful that Rick Berman imposed.
