That's something a lot of the fandom forgets, although it's usually more to do with shipping or whether Aang should kill.

I see where you're coming from, though, even in my eternal lazy inability to watch the finale. I know why they did it, but I prefer Azula with her madness well-hidden.

Azula's madness was, IMO, handled in the most infuriating way possible anyway. You may be happier you didn't see it.

She's an evil sociopath of a villain, as if that's never been done before, and she brings nothing new to that genre of villainy.

She's a boring, watery replacement for Zhao's manipulative magnificent bastard with Xanatos aspirations.

And I found Zhao to be fairly typical.

Azula's characterization by fandom as nothing but a sociopath does her a disservice. She's something of a sociopath, but she's as much if not more a narcissist. I find it refreshing to see a character who is evil, who does evil things and does not get excused or redeemed at the end, and who doesn't have weird metaphysical world-destroying aspirations...but who has more to her personality and motivations than just "lol I'm evil." In Azula's case, it's perfectionism, hidden neediness, and social awkwardness, and they actually make just as much sense as her cruelty and arrogance in the context of her character.

And I don't see any truth to your characterization of Azula.

She bores me, and I see nothing more to her character than "lol I'm just evil" - that's at the heart and center of her character and any other bits and pieces (mostly tacked on during The Beach and feeling like nothing more than afterthoughts) don't excuse her overwhelming boringness.

I have no desire to continue this conversation because I will always think you're wrong.

In fact, I find any grandparent who takes the bull by the horns in any sort of situation to be the world's great incarnation of badass. I tip my hat to all of them.
