idk, I'm not, really. Are there statistics on this sort of thing?

sorry, misunderstanding. secret implies "why do all these women like X thing when *I* and all my MALE friends don't?"

I'm sure not every woman does, but following the logic, "So why do all these men talk about women wanting to rip each other's shirts off and deep-tongue each other?" Why is that never the question?

Female fantasy is not inferior to male fantasy. Secretmaker answers own question.

Of course female fantasies are not inferior to male ones. But if we leave that aspect out of the question - why is so much slash about domination and submission>? Why is that a popular subject for fiction? I'm female and I don't get it at all - I'm not saying people don't have a right to er... write it, I would just like some conversation about what it is that people get out of it and why?

Though don't you feel that most fiction like this is at the poorly written end of the spectrum? I wonder how many people write like this because they think that's how slash is written, rather than because they have themes to develop or aspects of sexuality to explore.

I dunno, is it all that common? I haven't really seen that much, but I am pretty picky about what I read and I don't read much fanfic these days anymore anyways.

For yaoi, I know it's part of the genre to have an overexaggerated strong manly top and a weepy girly bottom, but I always found that boring and ridiculous, and put it down to cultural difference.

I think it might really just be that people think that that's how slash is meant to be. I mean, it's been in European culture since the Greeks that a man (or a woman, for that matter) who allows himself to be penetrated is weak, needy, jealous, un-masculine &c &c (and as has been said in other threads, it's the norm for most mainstream porn, as well), so if you get a lazy writer, or one who hasn't got much experience with the dynamics of real-life relationships, they might automatically fall back on the strong aggressor/weak receiver type.

Oh, and as for what people get out of it and whatnot, I understand submission fantasies intellectually (lack of control = no need to worry about responsibilities/consequences, it's nice to be taken care of, the thrill of danger, and so on) but I can't really relate emotionally, since I prefer being 'on top' or whatever you want to call it. But then again I can't really express a logical explanation for that beyond 'it feels good to be in charge'. XD
