Like...I have no issues with BDSM...at all, and it can be pretty awesome if you know what you're doing, BUT going into an actually BDSM situation knowing jack shit is not a good idea. Going into a BDSM fanfic with no idea what's going on is, in fact, pretty damn safe. And there's a lot of social levels and all sorts of stuff that you can ease your way into through fandom things.
