103. Is it that she is so flawlessly intelligent and evil at fourteen years of age? That does irk some people, I have seen.

106. We're really different, you and I. I usually don't take stands on the internet during wank, because I find so very few things on it worth getting riled up about. I will just sit there and watch the flames flare, roll my eyes, state my opinion and do nothing else. No involvement in an argument, no standing to someones defense or rushing to deride someone. I just don't feel like it.

But I don't think your thinking is wrong either. Perhaps what you did infuriated some, perhaps some think you just stirred up meaningless wank... but in my experience with the internet, the odds are good that someone who was unfairly bullied had you at their side, and that it meant something to them. So... thank you for the honesty, I suppose.

160. Ah, Naruto. All in all... I'm in a pretty good place with it right now... mostly because it seems Kubo's gotten the "snail-pace fightitis" bug that was biting Kishi at the time of the Itachi-fight, so I have someone else to pour my dislike over.

But really, I can understand both you and your friends. Naruto has suffered from inconcistent quality and a number of flaws that have more and more come to light lately as it tries to develop it's themes, and I can understand people angrily lashing out because they thought something was really cool and as they go along they see the flaws and don't want to admit it could ever move them. But the theme of growing up and finding one's place in the world is still going strong and I can respect Kishi for at least sticking to that, and I can see how people would still find it a draw.

So all in all, I can feel both the haters and the lovers, because I know where both are coming from. You just... try and stay positive and try to find some place you can vent your fannish glee in. That usually helps even when RL is disapproving.

My problem is that we're told she's intelligent repeatedly. We never really see it though. The hype does not match the content. A very large part of the problem for me might just be that I'm an adult, and she's a villain written for children. I'm willing to buy that as an answer. But she's not even really effectively manipulative, most of the time. Which sort of makes Zuko look stupider for falling for it.

The only thing she was really convincing at was being willing to hurt other people, so they were afraid of her. Which might be somewhat convincing as a villain in a petty, selfish way. But when she's supposed to be this intelligent, sophisticated villain... wow, does she fall short.

Compared to Zhao, who's a manipulative, magnificent bastard with Xanatos aspirations, Azula FAILS at villainy.

The girl couldn't politik her way out of a wet paper bag, and she uses her Elite Firebending Skillz to make up for it (which, FLYING? A ROCKET? those are stupid, not impressive.)

This is supposed to be an example of a deep and intelligent character?

It wouldn't have bothered me so much if the characters around her had acted more like that's what she did. Yes, they were afraid of her, but we kept hearing how smart she is. And then seeing that. Her actions never match how other characters respond to her. If they had billed her as being dangerous because she's unstable, irrational, and liable to lash out wildly if she doesn't get her way, then at least it would have been consistent.

I thought that moment (and the finale, really) wasn't supposed to be an "example of a deep and intelligent character". I thought it was to show just how bad she's lost it, just how much she was falling apart and losing her grip. I don't think anyone would argue that when she was pointlessly banishing people that she was awesome and the bestest villian evar.

I really like Azula, but I think you're getting the wrong idea maybe? I never saw her as this super-intelligent wonderful master villian. I think it was always apparent she was bratty and crude, and definitely cruel.

Shut up about Zhao already. I agree with the person responding to you, but dear god you Zhao fanboy/girlishness is getting fucking old. He wasn't that great of a villain.

BUT WAIT. You forget how magnificent and intelligent he was! After all, he was outwitted by the silly antics of a twelve-year-old! "AHOY! I'm Admiral Zhao!"

Oh, and defeated in an Agni Kai by S1!Zuko.

Oh, and the gAang regularly poked fun at him. Serious threat, indeed.

OMG NO you don't understand! Zhao was a magnificant bastard who's ultimate goal was to kill a fish so he could ~*TAKE OVER THE WORLD*~. Obviously so superior in character development!!!11
