I think the problem is that the dom/sub fandom tropes are so easy to fall into - they lend themselves to easy (read: bad) writing, because it requires less thought and because it turns a lot of people on. I've noticed that writers in fandoms are very heavily stocked on the female side, though, and I've seen the occasional male writer do the exact same thing; so to a certain degree I believe that it's something to do with bad writing and/or sexual fantasies as it does with anything else. It annoys me when good characters of whatever gender are turned into "blobs of needy love goo" (love the turn of phrase, by the way! So perfectly descriptive!) more because it doesn't fit their character than because it's a bad characterization. Because some women like that do exist. -_-;;

...though I'm somewhat disturbed by the fact that OP seems to think that this tendency is a cause for concern...
