Because sociopaths make boring villains unless they bring something new to the genre, and Azula doesn't, her story arc consists of one powerup after another and the things she pulls off read as false because they are patently unrealistic for a fourteen-year-old to accomplish.

Which wouldn't have bothered me half as much if they hadn't already showed us that they had the balls to give us adults as villains in a kids' show with Zhao and Long Feng.

She was the only villain in the show to actually have character development unless you count Zuko, and having talent and intelligence isn't poor character development anyways. Sokka is damn smart for his age and gets some hax sword fighting skills in a single episode, so why don't you bitch about him? Katara became a master waterbender in a few weeks, Toph is ultra talented, and Aang mastered 4 types of bending in a year. All the kids are over talented in some way.

Because Azula bores me and because she could have been a thousand times more interesting if they hadn't made her you Stock Sociopath.

In this particular argument you were saying that her "terrible characterization" was because of her talent and intelligence. Saying that she's a bad character because of her talent while the rest of the characters in the show are right up there in talent is ridiculous. You may not like her as a character, that's fine, but she's not a flat character and she's not a stock sociopath though she may share some of the characteristics.

I really don't get your arguments. You complain that Azula is a flat villain, but Zhao is an excellent villain despite the fact that he was constantly defeated and had no character development what-so-ever.

Out of ALL my fandoms I've only ever actively disliked two female characters, and Azula is one of them. If we're sticking to Avatar, I adored Hama, and grew to love Mai and Ty Lee (although they were redeemed) and was pleasantly creeped out by the Joo Dees.

Azula bores me, and she reads as a flat and unconvincing and yet the fandom seems to think she's the best thing since the goddamn smallpox vaccine.

And you know what? I'm ALLOWED to dislike Azula on her own merit or lack thereof! And I'm ALLOWED to do that and still be a feminist! And I AM a feminist, proudly so, while you're just a fucking moron.

Dude, I love everything about Avatar except Azula, and I've defended it as part of its genre many times before.

I dislike Azula because she falls flat as a villain, with her age only adding to her flatness, and I can dislike Azula for those reasons if I damn well want to.

Because I've been out of Avatar fandom for almost four years now (that is, I interact with the fandom exclusively through my friends list and not through comms or message boards), I haven't talked about avatar since shortly after the finale and I don't want the aforementioned drama (or the vehemence of Azula's adoring hordes) in my inbox.
