“Also "but European countries did bad things too" isn't the sick burn you think it is.”

It honestly is, considering that’s something bad faith people like to pretend isn’t a thing, and then always backpedal with “but it’s not a big deal. The governments sort of apologized, so it doesn’t matter anymore. And Americans are still somehow way worse despite the country itself not being around nearly as long as these European countries” whenever they’re called out on it.

And dragging the healthcare issue in is really rich, considering that’s something that most Americans aren’t thrilled abou, but it’s completely irrelevant to the topic, and not the fault of the American citizens that aren’t in government. Whataboutism, or just plain transparently diverting the topic? Either way, your whole comment is full of shit. America and Europe are both guilty of some major atrocities, which have been “apologized” for in the most insincere ways possible by the respective governments.

This “my country is better than yours, or at least not as bad” game is pointless, because there’s no country without sin in the world. What’s the point of this verbal slap fight that always happens? You’re not better than America, and America sure as hell isn’t better than anywhere else. So the constant potshots are so stupid and childish.

Especially because this whole thing started with someone insinuating that only America is soulless, which lol. So act like the Americans are in the wrong for responding to that clearly bad faith bait all you want, but it’s not a good look for you all either that you have no self-awareness in the faults of the place you happen to live in. Just like most Americans aren’t at fault for the bad things in their country, past and present, the same goes for the rest of the world. We all just live here, we’re not automatically responsible for everything. What country isn’t “soulless”? Not a single one. And who cares, because it’s not about whether the government has a soul in this way, or whether consumer culture is dominate? It’s all about the individual people and cultures, that’s where the soul of every place can be found.

They didn’t preface this comment with “lmao”, genius. Someone asked “what’s so funny?” in response to the first “lmao”, and ayrt responded by saying “lmao is because”. Meaning “I’m/they’re laughing because...”. Explaining why someone said lmao the first time by saying why isn’t them just using lmao as a mere preface. Would this have been clearer if they had started the comment with something like “I/they said lmao because...”? Sure. But what they’re trying to say with their first sentence is still pretty clear to those of us actually reading their comment.

Damn, books are crazy expensive is what I'm getting from all of this.

So what if they are a flat rate, they pretty much double the cost of the kickstarter for anyone who wants something tangible, rather than eBooks. I like special editions, I like swag...but it's just not do-able for me or a lot of people who won't be able to scrape together the $920 the full bundle plus shipping costs by the end of the month, plus whatever nasty extra import fees and taxes get tacked on when each monthly bundle comes in.

you not being able to afford what something costs does not mean the kickstarter is embarassing or not a good look or that you would pay less without the kickstarter for a subscription box. hth.

I saw it, looked into it, realised, I've never read any of his books and wasn't willing to put out nearly $200 for 4 books and 8 swag boxes from an author I've never read and may not even like.

Still, he definitely has his rabid fans, which is why it skyrocketed so quickly. Would not be surprised if it broke $30mil by the time it was done.
