(Anonymous) 2022-03-13 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)Also "but European countries did bad things too" isn't the sick burn you think it is.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-14 01:52 am (UTC)(link)Why is this phrased as a question? Are you not sure, because you didn't actually do any research? Or is it because you know that deep down the "apologies" were somewhere in the range of non-apologetic to barely-apologetic, never quite getting to the core of the atrocities?
Also, ayrt didn't limit the countries to European, so I'm not sure where you're getting that from.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-14 03:20 am (UTC)(link)It honestly is, considering that’s something bad faith people like to pretend isn’t a thing, and then always backpedal with “but it’s not a big deal. The governments sort of apologized, so it doesn’t matter anymore. And Americans are still somehow way worse despite the country itself not being around nearly as long as these European countries” whenever they’re called out on it.
And dragging the healthcare issue in is really rich, considering that’s something that most Americans aren’t thrilled abou, but it’s completely irrelevant to the topic, and not the fault of the American citizens that aren’t in government. Whataboutism, or just plain transparently diverting the topic? Either way, your whole comment is full of shit. America and Europe are both guilty of some major atrocities, which have been “apologized” for in the most insincere ways possible by the respective governments.
This “my country is better than yours, or at least not as bad” game is pointless, because there’s no country without sin in the world. What’s the point of this verbal slap fight that always happens? You’re not better than America, and America sure as hell isn’t better than anywhere else. So the constant potshots are so stupid and childish.
Especially because this whole thing started with someone insinuating that only America is soulless, which lol. So act like the Americans are in the wrong for responding to that clearly bad faith bait all you want, but it’s not a good look for you all either that you have no self-awareness in the faults of the place you happen to live in. Just like most Americans aren’t at fault for the bad things in their country, past and present, the same goes for the rest of the world. We all just live here, we’re not automatically responsible for everything. What country isn’t “soulless”? Not a single one. And who cares, because it’s not about whether the government has a soul in this way, or whether consumer culture is dominate? It’s all about the individual people and cultures, that’s where the soul of every place can be found.
