I understand that. Which is why I did NOT say the guy IS a pedophile, because that implies he is having sex with actual children. What I'm saying is, it is clearly a picture of a child. And being turned on by that is skeevy. Which the OP must acknowledge, otherwise why is it a secret?

But this is fandom, and a lot of people are turned on by things they wouldn't be turned on by in real life, like rape or incest or violence.

Fandom sort of exists in a parallell reality where people would do things they never would in real life. You have to keep your "fandom goggles" on when you browse through most kink memes, or you'd be scared of most people there.

Yeah, I know the difference between fantasy and reality, and I know that in fandom, we embrace lots of things as ok kinks that the rest of the world might not.

But what about when we go offline? Does any of this translate? If so, how?

For instance, there's zero evidence to suggest that even though many women fantasize about rape, they either A. actually want to be raped or B. are going to commit acts of sexual violence. Whereas there has been a clear link found between perpetrators of sexual violence against children, and the viewing of child pornography.

I get that the picture is not an *actual* child. And again, I'm not accusing the OP of going out and molesting little boys.

But man, I wouldn't want anyone who found any picture of a kid sexually appealing alone with my kid. And I'm not gonna feel bad about having that thought.

I see what you mean about RL link. However, I'd still like to think that the brain reacts differently to a drawn picture than a photograph. With a drawing (or a story) you can imagine that the child is more mature, enjoys sexual attention etc. There's a sort of suspension of disbelief in place. If you look at a real child pornographic image (as I've done once, eww) there's no glossing over the fact that you're watching a kid get raped. If you would be turned on by that, yes, then you're a pedophile.

You might be right, I hadn't thought of it that way. I'm not convinced, but it makes me feel better, so maybe I'll just hold onto it.
