Kind of like Arthur Conan Doyle who hated Sherlock Holmes, lol. Maybe the mangaka didn't quite anticipate the popularity of the character, I mean, Sasuke was always pretty popular too, so perhaps the mangaka expected that whatshisname with the dark hair and the doggos will be more popular. If we are drawing Naruto parallels, at least Nobara is much more popular than Sakura.
Offtop, but I only like Nanami, I don't think there is actually anyone like him in Naruto.

Megumi!! I also thought he'd be pretty popular, but I think they all have pretty decent fanbases. I like pretty much all the characters, even side characters! I really like the trio because they're all just friends. There's no romantic underpinning nada. They're just doofy kids sometimes and it's adorable.

Funny enough, the managaka says in the tweet that you should all like Nanami, he's the only good one! Lol I agrée. That said, I'm so down for Toji (and Getou) it's a joke. And both of these men would throw you out without a second thought XD. I'll always be here for Gojo too. I enjoy Sukuna for his attitude, he's funny.

To be fair, Gojo hasn't been #1 in all popularity polls, and Megumi definitely has a huge fan base as well. It's just that Gojo isn't the main character/part of the main trio officially but the mangaka kept giving him huge amounts of screen time complete with several deus ex machina scenes that overshadowed everyone, made him super good looking and somehow was surprised some fans started caring more about him than the main trio. And... I mean, yeah, he might not have anticipated that but I have to ask - why the hell didn't he lol.

I haven't started this series yet, but I got sick of this guy fast just seeing how popular he was. He doesn't sound like the type of character I ever care about, and my indifference becomes dislike when characters like that are fan favorites. But the manga-ka hates him too? Now I feel kind of bad.

He has a lot of annoying fans (who also occasionally have a lot of annoying OOC fanon opinions), yes. The Japanese fans also apparently kept badgering the mangaka about the character even during story arcs that weren't about him so I get where his dislike comes from but as I said in the secret, it's his own fault. He could have written him in several different ways that wouldn't have made him an instant fave for many different types of readers. He didn't, so it's on him.

And all his beauty and powers aside, there's just. So. Much. Of him in the manga? Like, at times I had a feeling there's more story and info about him than about any other character, main 3 kids included (and THEY are supposed to feature the most)!
I got so annoyed at that, since I love the main 3 the most, that I droped reading it lmao. Now that I heard there's a point in manga where he's absent I'm thinking about starting reading it again.

Yeah I mean, I really like him but I also was surprised how much he was featured all the time. And like... mister mangaka, dude, nobody MADE you do this, those were YOUR choices with the storytelling and character design and characterisation, stop whining.
But yeah, he literally has been put in a box for a while now so he's absent. Which... you know, I like him a lot, fave and all but he was kinda breaking the plot so I'm not sad that he got a time out.

If you get into manga at this point and don't know what sorts of characters vibe with readers and purposefully write him to be Like That and then act surprised there's a large fanbase simping for him I don't know what to tell you but you played yourself hard.

I love Gojo and I also would've thought, based off watching/reading alone, that the creator also had a serious hard on for him too.
