Re: Songs that make you ugly cry?
(Anonymous) 2022-03-22 01:36 am (UTC)(link)It hasn’t done that for a while, but Don’t Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult did this for about a year. I was going through a terrible spike of depression at the time, so it was easy to make me cry. But it was a “this is beautiful” ugly cry, not a “this is sad” ugly cry. And the reason it was so touching for me is that it was used in a sweet fanvid for a character that recently died in canon.
Speaking of which, one of the most recent songs to make me ugly cry, this time both for sad and beautiful reasons is Friend, the credits song for the season 8 finale of RWBY. I, like many others in the fandom, embody that “Lay down, try not to cry, cry a lot” meme when I listen to it and think of a certain character I’m still not over the fate of. It’s so unfair, I don’t know if I’ll be over it anytime soon. Please don’t judge me, although you can laugh at me if you want!
And lastly, the other most recent song to make me cry every time is A Million Miles Away from Belle. It’s definitely for beautiful reasons, and I always think of the scene that song is sung in, which was one of the most touching scenes I’ve seen in a while!
Honorable mention goes to Dos Oruguitas from Encanto, and it’s English version. It’s only an honorable mention and not an actual example because I don’t cry literally every time I hear it, just sometimes.
It must be said that I’m going through another bad spike of depression lately, not helped by my absolutely fucked up circadian rhythm, which might explain why all these recent examples bring on the waterworks for me. Because I usually don’t cry too easily at any song besides Dante’s Prayer. And when my depression isn’t spiked, and my sleep schedule is somewhat normal, I rarely cry at all outside of when I’m menstruating. So my mental state could be better, obviously. Not that I’m in a unique position with that, of course.
