I'm not sure if this is a case of actual cheap looking clothes, or confusion brought about by cultural ignorance. Hmmm

It's possible I'm ignorant, of course. But I'm skeptical that there's an aspect of Chinese culture in the Republican era where rich people wore clothes with rather cheap looking lace clumsily stitched to their collar?

And your go-to was, "OP doesn't realize that shows have budgets" instead of "OP is aware that shows have budgets but still finds it distracting that the look of this character doesn't match what he's supposed to be"? Heh, okay. Rest assured that I know this, but it's just one of those things that bugs me.

DA The budget for this show was looooow. A particularly memorable example is how the a monster in a tomb was... a load of incredibly cheap long black wigs dotted around on surfaces which the actors had to tiptoe past. There were multiple scenes of this.

Yeah that's a fair point. I guess that's probably easier to see in an action shot than this still.

Awww... I liked the twiddly little applique. (Though that close-up is showing the rough edges of it, I cannot deny.)


OP, have you seen that side-story Flowers Bloom In February? He goes through an entire tomb clad in flawless, drifting white. (Er-ye was a man with... capability.)

I think the whole red-on-pink is a bit of an eyesore, but really, with a different color scheme and a neater sewing job, it probably would've been fine.

LOL, haven't seen that one yet. I'm at episode 40 of this series, marveling at how many women have fallen in love with Er Ye!

I loved those colours on him, but admittedly, I looked more at his face than his clothes, so lack of quality fabric didn't bother me too much. *g*
