I wouldn't have understood that either, a portmanteau doesn't automatically make a pun.

Yeah, that's just two words smushed together, it's in no way a pun.

I'm not familiar with the canon and I was assuming there was some in-universe relationship between "Snowflake" and "Drake" that made it a pun? IDK

Or maybe it's just making fun of the singer. In which case, I agree with it, no further questions.

Also not familiar, but I assumed it was "drake" in the sense of a male duck

(Anonymous) 2022-03-26 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Snowdrake is a snowflake duck thing.

Drake as in a dragon. It's a snow dragon.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-27 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that it rhymes with "snowflake," and Snowdrake's head looks like one (and it's a drake), is what makes it a pun. If it didn't rhyme, it would just be a portmanteau and not a pun.

Just because it rhymes doesn't make it a pun, either, even if it's based on looks. That makes it more like a mean nickname than anything else.

It’s a pun based on the portmanteau and the rhyme, with the design being there to reinforce it. Nobody said those are good puns, but the concept of what constitutes a pun is much broader than what people in this thread seem to think.
