imma give you a little benefit of the doubt, OP, in that self-employment and reportable income are difficult spheres to manage and literally no one ever flat out tells you that when you start receiving money for goods and services you need to figure out how to include that income in your taxes. It seems logical but so were face masks except we still had to tell people to start using them before they considered the obvious. All these younguns out here on Patreon and Twitch and Onlyfans are probably completely clueless about the fact that this is income and you have to report it on your taxes.

so, do that, please. It probably won't be enough to change your overall pay-in depending on your other deductions, classifications, etc, but clearly this topic has really struck a nerve. you're probably not making 50k a year anyway.

It's one of the first things every guide to freelancing tells you. I can't imagine even attempting to work for myself without reading one of those.

This. I had a part-time stint of being self-employed and it WRECKED my taxes that year because I went in so unaware (I foolishly assumed the company I was contracted with was still deducting my taxes appropriately. Ha.) Never again.
