Not just non-human characters though. I know attraction works differently for everyone but some people really act like they should win a prize any time they mention how attractive they find not-conventionally-attractive-older-actor xyz.

I've seen this a lot with fandoms like The Terror where the whole "I find this older pudgy less than average looking dude sooooo hot" gets especially performative at times. (Not saying some people aren't really attracted to those characters but it's in the way some of them talk that just oozes "praise me for my unusual totally diverse taste".)

yea, it has real "if you saw the milfs -I- want to fuck you'd puke, you don't actually like milfs!/stop calling men with grey hair and abs dilfs" energy. like i get what they're trying to say, but you can talk about it without bragging that your tastes are enlightened

I read “tastes” in that last sentence as “testes” but same diff I guess
