I feel like the intensity of romantic fixations varies, not just depending on the relationship but also depending on the person. I think some people hyperfixate romantically a lot more than other people do. So yeah, I think you’re right that some people do relate to love songs, and don’t necessarily view them as hyperbolic.

However, I think there are probably plenty of people who relate to love songs, but also view them as hyperbolic. Being aro is definitely one reason why a person might not relate to love songs, but I think plenty of non-aro people probably find them pretty OTT as well.

Personally, I’m aro/ace so I don’t relate to love songs on a personal level. However, I hyperfixate on my OTPs to a degree that’s embarrassing and probably not entirely healthy, and like, if that same intensity of feeling were directed at a person instead of a fictional ship, I definitely think I would identify with all the love songs and they wouldn’t feel hyperbolic.
