I still get really frustrated with characters bonking someone they know they'll get in trouble for bonking (agent with a witness in protection, teacher and student, etc etc), and I have a hard time continuing to care about that character when they get to the find out stage of the literal fuck around. Just keep it in your pants! It's not DIFFICULT, right?! *cough*i'm ace*cough*

DA - The one I scratch my head at is female characters (or people irl honestly) willingly having unprotected sex when they don't have access to abortion and getting pregnant will literally ruin their lives. Like, I get that people are horny (I've been horny before, albeit not that often) but FFS, how horny do you have to BE to risk ruining your life for a fuck??! I try not to judge, because I am sex positive, and women get so much shit about their sexual behaviors as it is. But damn, I just don't get this aspect of human sexual behavior. Like, how is it even possible to be so horny you'll play Russian Roulette to get some D?

This really bugs me, too, not least because there are other kinds of sex other than PIV. There's manual and oral and anal and frottage (including all the variants of frottage like intercrural and intergluteal and etc.). You can have your pick from a massive list of sex acts that don't carry the risk of unwanted pregnancy, dear stupid characters! Please just choose from that list rather than courting disaster.

To be fair, sometimes it is bad storytelling. If the author hasn't established certain things about people that the audience have known for a while, and then suddenly decides character A and character B should be bonking, even though nothing suggests they should be, or it's inconsistent with one of their characters... then it can be very out-of-left-field.
