It's definitely due to social media and the accessibility of canon creators. I miss the days when the first rule of Fic Club was you didn't talk about Fic Club anywhere anyone connected to the canon could hear about it.

Fans get drunk on power when they can do things like running John Green off Tumblr and start acting absolutely tyrannical to people who are just in the fandom with them, not even canon creators. After all, if they can get a rush of power from screaming at show writers and voice actors and such, it's even safer and more convenient to do it to fellow fans. They get addicted to the rush of brain chemicals that feeling self-righteous gives.

They never shoulda released a Snyder Cut. Hell, even making a Firefly movie set a real bad precedent.

Did anyone even prefer the Snyder cut over the original release? All I heard about it was even more complaints. I like to think TPTB knew that the complainers would hate it as well and only released it as a middle finger to the complainers. They got to charge them twice for the same movie!

IME people generally did like the Snyder cut more, even people who weren't Snyder fans.

But I think it's less because the Snyder cut was good, and more because it got rid of some really dumb bullshit.

AYRT

Interesting! I must have only come across the whiniest parts of fandom. But I'm not really into DC, so most likely the complainers were just loud enough to cross my radar.

They liked it because Joss Whedon's name was effectively mud by that point, and what were they gonna do? Defend Whedon? The Snyder-grimdark boys already hated him, so would shitstan Snyder whatever he did, and the liberal wing of fandom would have praised Tommy Wiseau's Justice League ahead of Whedon's by that point.

Whedon's name is mud and also, separately, Whedon's creative decisions and contributions to Justice League made it a worse movie.

...but did you see Whedon's Justice League? I watched it in theater and had never felt more like I'd wasted my time, and mind you, he wasn't persona non grata in 2017 quite yet.

I didn't watch, but I watched a lot of video reviews and what I got out of it was that, the Snyder Cut wasn't good but better in small but significant ways than the original cut.

It's the hypocrisy that gets me. Pretending to be righteous, when all they do is bully people. Disgusting.
