You're probably right. The anti fan of any gender vs. the old women specifically rubbed me the wrong way I suppose.

Why? It wasn’t supposed to be ageist, just referring to the old guard. The territorial old guard specifically. I guess choosing grannys instead of grandpas was the part that got you? I don’t know why granny’s were singled out over granpas either. But it wasn’t supposed to mean anything.

I would say it's because there is quite a nasty streak in fandom these days where anyone over the age of around 25 gets an 'eeeww, why are you in this fandom, you're old and gross, don't you have cooking/cleaning/looking after kids to do?' reaction when they interact ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I remember the South Park secret, that talked about how younger South Park fans wanted older adults out of the fandom and it's like, you think you discovered something with this show that's like, a secret adults don't/shouldn't know about? My dude, it was on before you were born.

Same with the American Girls fandom. Someone did a "confession" post on IG whining that adults who post pictures of their collections in the AGIG tag came off as "predatory". It's amazing how much time kids you don't know, think strange adults spend thinking about them. We're generally...not. The fandom's been around since 1986. We've been collecting from 15-20-35 years and we now spend hundreds of our own money on it, and photograph the dolls in homes we pay for with our own money using cameras we paid for with our own money. Is it immature? Maybe. But it's also our prerogative as grown ass adults.

I remember teenie X-Files fans who came in with the reboot a few years ago yelling that the older, adult fans who were already there should get out of the fandom because the canon was really just for kids.
