Re: What are some examples of good reboots/remakes?

People also weren’t afraid to look greasy in the 60s, which was a far better decade for film than the 70s.

In all seriousness, the 60s were by no means a bad decade for film, but it does seem to me that the 70s there was a huge increase in the ability of filmmakers in America to do things outside of the constraints of the studio system. That began in the late 60s but it really came into full focus in the 70s. And you can see that in the absolute murderer's row of phenomenal movies made in the 70s - absolute classics of pretty much all different types. I do think that the depth and breadth of great movies in the 70s was greater than in the 1960s.

I just don’t really agree that the 70s were the best decade for film. There were plenty of wonderful movies(several of my all time favorite movies of all time were from the 70s, and I love films with 70s aesthetics), but the same is true of pretty much every decade. In some ways, the 70s had some problems and not so great techniques for film. And I don’t really think that doing things out of the constraints of the studio system automatically made films better. At least not always. But I do agree that being free of those constraints was a net positive that lead to technological achievements in filmmaking moving faster than ever, not to mention all the new kinds of stories that could be told. But sometimes constraints and limitations can force filmmakers to think outside of the box, and that lead to some truly fantastic films, and revolutionary techniques. Not to mention I think that overall acting in movies, and the stars that made those iconic performances were stronger in the 60s and before. That doesn’t mean that there weren’t plenty of spectacular performances and actors in the 70s, because there were so many.

I’m not trying to say the 70s was a bad decade for movies, far from it. I just don’t agree that it’s the best. You do bring up many good points. But I don’t agree with all of them. And it’s fine that we don’t agree, because this is just my opinion, and I’m absolutely not some objective source on film in any way. I may have come in a little too intense and rude in my first comment, and that was my bad. Because I know that these are just my thoughts and nothing more.

I may not completely agree on films from the 70s, but I do think the 70s might just be the best decade for music. I know that’s a digression, but I do legitimately think that lol. The 70s were great in so many ways, even if I think some decades were better for film overall.

That's totally fair! Taste is taste, no one's going to agree on everything. It's all good. And like, it's definitely true that a ton of 70s movies are ridiculous schlock, the decade definitely had its fair share of absolute dreck.

Also I definitely agree with you that there was a ton of fantastic music in the 70s! It's not my absolute favorite decade musically but they did have some absolute bangers.
