117. If you ask me, classics are those books that English professors fanboy, no more and no less. Some of them are important from a historical perspective but like nails on chalkboards when it comes time to buckle down and read 'em.

148. What about the ones with doggies?

I have never encountered a classic which was not an extremely valuable read once I gave it due attention, both as a part of the lineage of literature and for me as a human being.

I mean, I don't like all of them, but there is a reason why they are still being read 200+ years on and it's not because The Man wants to make school painful.

I sense we are actually in agreement. Important from a historical perspective... painful as hell to read. It happens.

It's like classic videogames. Or classic anything, but it's what I know. Metroid was very, very important as a game, but even though I grew up on the NES I just couldn't get into it after playing later games in the series.

Maybe I'm just annoyed about what's usually considered Grrrrreat Arte and what's considered "trash." Sorry, I just don't think symbolism for symbolism's sake makes a story any better than just telling the damn story.

... I read classics for fun. I'm not taking any high level English lit courses, I just like reading classics...
