I'd very much like to hear your argument for the film cast being in any way, shape or form superior to the stage cast. With particular attention to Gerard considering it's a film and therefore more bound by realism and he is the wrong age, the wrong range, the wrong height, the wrong nationality, and the wrong physical type. Not even touching performance.

Since you've clearly only seen the musical, I can't satisfactorily argue about characterisation or any of that, but in general the fact that Erik is not healthy hardly precludes his loving Christine even in such a severely reduced adaptation. Damaged people love too, the fact that he isn't capable of showing it in an appropriate manner doesn't mean his feelings aren't real.

The show makes no fucking sense without that. Not to mention, their relationship is, has always been, and will always be the centre of ALL the versions. That Christine loves him back is explicit in every version except the ALW musical. Again, not healthy =/= non-existent.
