151. I'm sorry, but I get so irritated by people who write off entire genres of music or movies or whatever. Especially if it's something like country music or chick flicks. I feel like they're only avoiding such things because they're considered 'uncool'. :/ Taylor Swift isn't the only country singer who has good songs. You should give more of it a chance - especially if you (secretly) like some of Taylor Swift.

...sorry, that was a relatively misplaced rant. I just get irked by blanket statements. :x

I think it is fine to not like a genre of music or movies. For example, I don't like country music (like the OP, lol). It's not because it's uncool (given where I live, I'm in a minority NOT liking it), I just honestly don't like the things that make country music country music. I'm fine that people do like it, and I have a great deal of respect for country music artists, I think they are generally more musically talented than a lot of pop 'artists.' I just don't care for the music style. I'm not even saying the songs are bad, I just don't like the music. Maybe I will like it at some time in the future, I'm not entirely opposed to that. But right now, I don't and I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all. I should be allowed to like what I like, and dislike what I dislike.

I didn't accuse the OP of not liking it cause it's uncool, I just said that's what it always feels like to me. I find it frustrating when people blow off an entire style of something and then doin't ever give anything from the genre a chance. It's just as annoying when people say they don't like rap/hip hop. There's SO MUCH OUT THERE I find it impossible that you wouldn't like at least ONE song, if you were open-minded enough to listen. I mean, I understand statements like "I don't USUALLY like ____," but to use a blanket statement and phrases like 'never' and 'always,' it bugs me.

[identity profile] riviyan-questa.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but really, it's hardly something to get so worked up over. Music is meant to be entertainment. The things that people on the internet enjoy doesn't really matter.

There are in fact, some country songs that I don't entirely dislike. And the same goes for rap. But they're still not up there on my list of things I would choose to listen to over music that I do enjoy. So while I do find some country music tolerable, it is still correct to say that I don't like country music. I HAVE given it a chance, and I DON'T like it. To say that I've completely dismissed something and never actually listened to it is grossly inaccurate.

I hardly find myself to be "worked up," I think you're reading a nonexistant tone into my responses. Honestly, if you're going to make a statement about the worthlessness of internet opinions, why do you insist on arguing this point with me?

[identity profile] riviyan-questa.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
You are the one who posted the rant originally, if you don't care as much as you say you do, you would have just kept moving and not bothered to comment at all. You then make a blanket statement about people who choose not to listen to certain types of music after having just said how 'irked' you get about blanket statements. I'd say you are worked up.

But clearly you are disregarding everything I say, so this conversation is over.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I was making a comment to the OP of the secret. I personally like discussions about my secrets when they come around, and I thought maybe the OP, unlike you, would be interested in my opinion and would like to defend his/her self. 'Irked' is not synonymous with 'worked up,' which implies an actual aggravated state. 'Irk' is really more like a mild frustration with the termonology the OP used.

I'm not disregarding everything you're saying - you were simply using contradicting statements, so I'm unsure of what you're WANTING me to listen to.
