There isn't an endgame. It isn't that sort of story. It is not a thing to be resolved, it is a situation to be lived in. It is permanently ongoing, even when the show ends. Stop thinking of it as GoT with a clear stop point, and start thinking of it as reading medieval history where shit just keeps happening no matter what.

NAYRT

But that doesn’t sound much better than what AYRT was describing the show as. Or at least, that wouldn’t make me personally want to stick through the show. And I get that it’s a fantasy, but it doesn’t really have much to do with GoT. So I don’t get why you compared it to GoT, like that’s the only story with a clear stop point(especially because the books don’t have a clear stop point yet, and may never have one). And I don’t think AYRT was thinking about it as GoT anyways.

SA. ...But it clearly does have an endgame. The entire show has been built around the conspiracy around Bean. That's where the problem lies. We can never really chill with it because we have this arc with Bean that almost everything ends up tying back into. Even things that should just be left alone.

DA - It really does seem like the problem is that the writers are trying to cram a traditional tv series (i.e., something meant to be released serially) into the streaming service format.

exactly! and i feel like the team knows how to do a conspiracy plot. a good chunk of them worked on gravity falls, after all. but i can also assume that they had more control over pacing there, especially since it famously ended exactly when the showrunner wanted it to.

i'm sorry but i'm really baffled by this defense. like, you're right, history and stories are typically different! that's... why not having a clear stop point isn't very good storytelling? and it certainly doesn't feel like an intentional choice to me in this case.
