117. femslash is a modifier of 'slash'. Fem-slash is Female-slash. Slash is male-male. It's like saying you have to be a rapefic fan if you're a fic fan. A rapefic IS a fic, but a fic doesn't have to be a rapefic. A square is a polygon, but a polygon doesn't have to be a square.

Incidentally, I like both.

This has always kind of squicked me. As if the male version is normative and the female is the "modified" version. I use both terms and I don't see a way around it, but still, it bothers me.

Yeah. It happens a lot and I don't like it either. Power vs. girlpower. Authors vs. women authors. Basketball vs. Women's Basketball

But if you substitute "Yuri is a type of yaoi, so why don't yaoi fans like yuri?" It points out how the secret doesn't make any sense.
