1.) Despite the movie castings, Snape, Remus, Sirius, and everybody from the Marauders era is actually was actually in their early- to mid-thirties during the course of the series. That is not 'mid-life', especially, it would seem, for wizards.

2.) There was a whole lot more I was going to say to your comment, but as I began typing, I wondered why the fuck I was defending Hermione/Snape.

Here's what it is, though. I thought your comment was unnecessarily agressive and self-righteous, which pissed me off. Secondly, I have a hard time with close-minded HP shippers, because I... am very much not one. Except for like two or three pairings in HP that mean anything to me, I'm willing to ship, like, everything in that canon. You write it well, I WILL READ IT.

So I don't get people who go "omg ew" to any HP pairing at all. :P

Agressive and self-righteous... wait, what? The OP asked why people think this pairing is sick/wrong/squicky/whatever. I told them. Starting by pointing out that that part where they implied that Snape is physically attractive does not hold water with anyone who doesn't fangirl him.

I'm sorry, but I just can't help but laugh at your comment. I love the books but I'm not in the HP fandom at all, let alone as a shipper. If saying it the way it is - in this case, that they're shipping a schoolgirl with a thoroughly unpleasant man old enough to be her father - rather than sugarcoating the facts makes me "close-minded" about shipping... really, what? I know that shipping tends to make people forget/stop worrying about their IRL moral issues and squicks, but how does it make me close-minded if I remind them that those concerns they have cast off for the sake of shipping are why many people don't ship it? I'm especially baffled because the first person to comment informed me that there are apparently plenty of SSHG shippers who don't shy away from tackling all the obstacles and flaws of this crack pairing.

*same anon*

Hell, I even limited myself to the one thing directly related to what they said in the secret (the faulty assumption of Snape's physical attractiveness). I didn't bother going into detail about all the other things that might squick people about SSHG - some of which apply to myself. You know why? Because I do not care what they ship. They asked and I gave them as much of an answer as I could be bothered giving.

I suggest you don't accuse people of being butthurt so easily. It makes them disinclined to have civil conversation with you. Good-bye.
