I don’t think they’re the exact same people, but I do think they’re the kind of people with he same mentality, it’s just directed differently.

I don't know, in many cases, they are. I've seen so many people rabidly stan one character while aggressively hating on another at the same time.

I don't think they're the same people, but they are two sides of the same coin.

It's a case by case I think. In some, both fans and antis are as bad as one another, in other one is far worse than the other. But yes, with how passionate they can be, both have the potential to become unhinged.

Well, there is that thing where some converts are absolute zealots. In this situation, if they loved something and got disillusioned or somehow became convinced it was to be hated, they are aggressive about their hatred. I think part of it is feeling resentful for having loved it, part of is superiority because they know it so well, and part of it is making sure others do not doubt their hatred of it now.

I think this can be true, but only sometimes. I know I'm extremely passionate about my OTPs and it makes it harder for me not to loathe rival ships. I'm a fucking grown-up, so I pretty much keep my feelings to myself, but if I were younger I would probably be out there making posts about why I dislike [insert ship here], and getting into arguments over it.

But there are plenty of people who are big-time obsesses with a character or a ship and still manage to control themselves, and not go out and get into fights with detractors or rival ships or whatever.

I think so. The people who love X in a rabid and unhealthy and destructive way are probably the same folks who hate Y in a rabid and unhealthy and destructive way. The behavior is the same, if not the object of attention.
