I have to disagree. Those kids are supposed to be eight, yet they have real friendships and learn actual life lessons. When I was eight, friendship was who you sat next to and wisdom was nonexistent.

Bluey obviously. All the kids in that are so spot on. I especially love the high pitched screaming they do when excited. My niblings do the same thing.

I always thought that Dakota Fanning in War of the Worlds felt super realistic. I'd also be freaking out like she did in the movie.

Some fics

Falling With The Landside (Marvel, Bucky/Steve) https://archiveofourown.org/works/32438698/chapters/80435542 Realistic kid Tony and probably one of the most realistic foster care fics I've ever read.

nobody gets left behind. (Schitt's Creek, Patrick/David) https://archiveofourown.org/works/19384006 Great example of one of those kids everyone knows that is super dramatic.

A Cut Above (SPN, Dean/Castiel) https://archiveofourown.org/works/16717251/chapters/39208235 A more realistic depiction of a child with autism (or at least IMO as someone with a niece with autism)

hell I'm just a kid myself (Teen Wolf, Derek/Stiles) https://archiveofourown.org/works/22577938/chapters/53954602 Realistic kid and teen parenting + a great story where things actually change with the introduction of a child (Stiles can't go on all those crazy adventures because he has a child to care for at home).

The kids on Bluey sound like real kids because they are real kids. All the child characters are voiced by similarly aged kids (a lot of them are children of the creative team behind the show). Also if you watch the credits you'll find that none of the child characters are credited as the creators want to protect the anonymity of the 'voice actors'.

On the newer episodes of the show you can actually hear how much the kids have aged between series and the creators are unsure whether the characters may have to be aged up or changed some way to keep up with the voice actors.

I love Bluey. Dad Baby is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

The kids dialogue in Outnumbered was semi-improvised, rather than just having them repeat lines that an adult had written they talked and acted more like kids.

Outnumbered was great for that.
