104. I don't get it. What do people mean when they said "____ renewed my faith in God"? How does a book do that?

130. I was so with you until the last two lines. They just sound weird, y'know?

168. I actually quite agree with this. I like reading about BDSM and such, and it looks like sexy teims, but some of it looks silly/gross to me in real life and I don't think I'd do it.

I'm not entirely sure. But, the Narnia books are allegories for Christianity (and well-written, to boot). I can see why they could find renewed faith and comfort from reading them.

I personally just read 'em for the good fantasy.

I know it has allegories for that, sure. I can understand agreeing with something. I've just wondered--not to be snarky or anything, just confused.

I was there for the fantasy, too. I didn't find out about how it was an allegory for anything until just before the first movie came out.

I know what you mean.

Sorry for nitpicking, but I feel it needs to be said. CS Lewis HIMSELF said that the Narnia books are not allegory. He said it was a "supposal." Ie "What would happen if Jesus was a lion in another world? What would happen then?" (Note: I totally paraphrased half of that. ^^;) But yeah, not an allegory, but a what if in a sense. I'm not saying it can't be allegorical, but it wasn't what Lewis originally intended.

sorry, it's almost two AM, so I won't make much sense

Think of faith as, um, shoes. The daily grind wears and tears it down until those shoes are weak and barely covering their feet, so it can get to the extent people just want to kick them off because it feels like it's pointless to go on wearing them.

Something that renews their faith makes 'em feel closer to God, makes 'em feel like those shoes are brand new, and gives them the strength to push onwards, no matter how strong the urge to just give up and let go of their belief is.

... Er. Well. That's my take on it.

That actually makes sense to me. Hmm. Never thought of it like that before.

I honestly would never be able to explain it any better than that. =)

Aww, thank you!

Oooh, alright. Feel closer. That makes sense.
Thanks. :)
