161 – I know what you mean!! It is SO weird to see people talking about Paul Bernardo in an unfamiliar way because I mean I knew SO much about him - I live about an hour away from where he committed his crimes, I've known about him since I was like ten, and he’s currently being held in a prison in the same city where I go to university, and it’s NOT a big city. I haven’t seen the movie, and I hope they didn’t romanticize him, but you have to separate the man from the character. It’s not like he did that because he is like Paul Bernardo.
But yeah, I’m ALWAYS uncomfortable when people use pictures of him in that character, because like....he’s playing Paul Bernardo wtf.
165 – really? I think it’s interesting because you get to see....how history/literature is reinterpreted for modern consumption. I’d certainly love to write an essay about it. That’s part of the reason I like watching the Tudors as well.

Agreed on all counts. My hometown is where one of his victims lived; it's really bizarre to hear people talking about it with distance, because everyone around me growing up was so familiar with the whole case. I also think that you're absolutely right about the importance of separating the actor and the man, despite how easy it is to get caught up in the general public distaste for the movie. I haven't seen it either, so I don't know how it was handled, but I wouldn't judge the actor for it.

And yeah, I mean it was made right around when she was being released, so clearly it was an issue here...one could certainly argue it was capitalizing on public interest.
