Isn't the rest of the secret railing against racist overtones in fanfic? That's how I take constant descriptions (food-based or not) of people's skin color, anyway. Back when I read Heroes fanfic, it bothered me that people made a point of calling Mohinder "the dark-skinned scientist" (or variations thereof) in almost every story I came across.

I disagree. I see your point, but it still comes across as incredibly racist to me. She did not need to use that terminology to make her point.

I have thought about this and I strongly and sadly suspect that the person dislikes being reminded that Mohinder is not white, not that she is complaining about the fetishistic metaphors. That's the only possible reason she could have phrased her secret that way.

I have to say that I agree with you, and what makes me especially sad is that I can't seem to understand how you can like a character without acknowledging that any person comes as a package deal - Mohinder would not be who he was if he didn't come from that particular background, the same way Hiro wouldn't be him if he wasn't Japanese, or Nathan...

And besides, what I loved most about Heroes was the global feel of the show. If you don't like that Mohinder isn't white, DON'T WATCH.

To be a "cow kisser" isn't a racial slur at all - it's a religious one, and it comes from a ridiculously ignorant perception of an entire country and set of religious beliefs. It was unnecessary, and just plain obnoxious.

And I don't think it could ever be 'ironic' - and to a fellow chocolatey cowkisser, it is incredibly, INCREDIBLY offensive.
