It's hard to believe somebody when they don't practice what they preach.

I'd rather be more concerned with the very real racist profiling sanctioned by our own government. I believe in actual action, not passive-aggressive bitching about what people think is racism.

If you're not concerned with the overall racial profiling on Supernatural, I find it difficult to believe you really care. Sorry.

And what's your opinion on 287(g)?

I know what it is. Personally. You're point would be?

What I just did: I made an assumption about you, that you're talking out of your ass. For that, I apologize.

But to be a dick about this: you are assuming the exact same thing about me.

You do not know me. You do not know every single fan. You don't know what we do or do not care about. You do not know what I have done with my life and will continue to do until I die.

287(g) is my current battlefield, especially with what happened recently in Arizona. We have a possible major victory on the horizon, because I stood up with others and we took action. (I'm optimistic, at least.)

I understand the 'you are an activist 24/7' mentality. I really do. But I do not see the same profiling in SPN that you do. I could go into the whys and wherefores, but I'm really not in the mood to meta.

But if you think the show is racist, what are you doing about it? What exactly are you accomplishing by complaining about it to people who (in your mind) just don't care, anyway? Why aren't you writing to the show itself?

Seriously? Have you ever paid attention to any of the racism blog entries that have been making the rounds on LJ? If it was just that simple, then why didn't the writers let Uriel be white and Castiel be black? If it made no difference?

Plain and simple, the black guy still died. Just like always in SPN.

I love how this is always the immediate response when somebody gets shown up by an anonymous person. Try harder next time for the not so obvious response, why don't you?

So what you're saying is that every single fan who doesn't kick up a fuss about Uriel dying is a racist asshole?

No. But I do think the whole "It can't be racism because they're not human" argument is deeply, deeply flawed, and just wanted to point that out.

I know the "accepted wisdom" is that non-humans are exactly the same race as the actor who plays them even if they're from another universe. But I don't actually accept that wisdom. I think it's wrong. I disagree with you. A LOT. DEAL WITH THAT. I have READ many of those posts. I think they are wrong.

It's one thing to tell people they're wrong when they're talking about their own experience of racism. I don't do that.

But Gene Roddenberry's dead, it's now possible to tell stories about black people and actually have them be black people, not aliens or angels or whatever, and therefore, NOT EVERY ALIEN CAST WITH A BLACK ACTOR REPRESENTS BLACK PEOPLE.

And the reason this is always the immediate response is because it is in fact difficult to take seriously people who don't have the guts to sign their names.
