Has probably already been answered but one of the directors says that the reason Brock was taken off for the Orange Islands is because they thought people overseas might think he was an Asian stereotype and that a character who looked more white might appeal to a wider audience.

Which begs the question of if Brock is Asian and Tracey is white, what the heck is everyone *else*?

Yes, because if there's one thing those wacky Asians are up to all the time, it's putting offensive stereotypes of themselves in their anime.

What?!

Or was it more of a "foreigners are racist so they'll see it this way" thing? (Equally stupid, but eh.)

The only elaboration given was that it was the decision of the producers and they made it independently of any dubbing company (it had been a fandom rumor that 4Kids had been behind the change, but no one had anything to back that up).
