Isabella Rossellini said David Lynch laughed at it, too. She didn't understand why at the time but now she laughs at that scene whenever she watches the film.

I don't laugh at that scene, but I do when Frank has everyone go to Ben's apartment (and I love how uncomfortable it is). Brad Dourif is one of my favorite minor characters in the film as well.
