It isn't a great photo, and the hairstyle isn't doing her any favours, but she looks fine to me.

They have her in a wig or something for the actual filming.

I think they also CGI her muscles bigger.

She looks like she has been skipping leg day.

Not big on the hair, but she looks hotter to me with more muscles. Then again, most people do.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks strong. I'd love to have a physique like that.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-01 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't find it hot, but I like it for the character.

I mean, if the premise here is that she's been imbued with the powers of a god (is that the premise?), then I guess it's unnecessary for her musculature to reflect her strength, so I wouldn't have minded if she hadn't hit the gym at all. But in general I think I just like seeing the appearance of strength prioritized for a female character, even when it's probably going to make that character less sexually attractive to some of the audience.

This! For me it's like...if Hemsworth-Thor didn't need those muscles, sure, neither would Portman, but if it's part of the established aesthetic of the character anyway, I'd rather--for once--see a muscley lady even if it's not conventionally pretty.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-01 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
100% agree. Thor has muscles, in all forms.

I also think it would seem stupid for a character that wields something like Mjolnir not to have muscular arms, in particular.

"I also don't care for very bulky, muscular men, either. Chris Hemsworth's Thor does nothing for me."

Saaaame. I admire the discipline it takes to create and cultivate that kind of body but I don't find it attractive at all.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-01 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Speaking of Chris Hemsworth's physique, there are a few body builders on YouTube that posit that Chris Hemsworth is/was using PEDs(steroids) of some kind to get that body in the timeframe that was given for Thor.

Not saying it's impossible to get that physique natural or that by taking PEDs you still wouldn't have to go through a grueling exercise regime, but it would've apparently taken more time than he had. Now this is all just an educated guess, but it really does make you wonder how many actors use PEDs of some sort for roles and how insane male standards are for films.

On the other hand, those same bodybuilders say Natalie Portmans physique is most likely natural, so good on her! She looks great! I'm so down for more muscular women in films.

I mean, that's extremely likely for any actor who does that super-ripped appearance in superhero movies. Steroids plus gruelling exercise plus severe dehydration. Portman isn't going for the same look, which would be good for everyone, IMO. Wolverine in the early movies is plenty muscular enough, I wish they hadn't gone for the super-ripped bulgy vein thing later.

The natural muscle tone of youth is pretty easy to maintain, but once you hit about thirty-five then you need to do serious workouts to maintain even slight amounts of muscle and that inevitably leads to the bulgy vein stuff.

I think it's extremely strange that that is the only picture coming up on google. Her posture is weird, the shirt is too big, her arms are awkward; everything about it seems made only to make her look bad. Meh.

I, too, don't care for they hyper-ripped look that some people aspire to. I like a swimmer or gymnast kind of body - more lean, no freakin' insane veins.

+1

She looks weird in this picture but I kind of have to assume that it's just a really, really, really bad picture.

Me, too, it just looks like it was snapped at a totally awkward moment.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-01 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it looks like she's mid-movement and caught at an awkward angle in an awkward pose. I wouldn't draw any conclusion about how she looks normally from it, let alone blame it on her being small - most gymnasts are tiny, but muscle doesn't look weird on them.

This exactly.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-01 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
To me she is going to be gorgeous even if she gets an 8-pack, and I say this as someone who isn't fond of buff either.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I hate this picture but I kind of feel like it's just the picture. I have a feeling she's going to look much better in motion.

But then, I do like the super muscular look so.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-02 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
This is a very awkward photo and I get the impression she'd look a lot more...normal, I guess, in motion. But I hate that the role basically required her to bulk up. Muscle bulk just doesn't suit petite frames and I personally dislike muscle bulk, too.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-02 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm about the same build as she is and I would absolutely look weird with a lot of muscle bulk because I have a very petite bone structure. It just doesn't look natural on someone with a very tiny build.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-02 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
it's also going to lead to different body problems later if she lets the muscle go. it's not like gaining and losing a few pounds for a role, muscle changes can be near-permanent and letting them languish doesn't just make the muscle go away. then again, if she's going to just enjoy some muscle for the next thirty years, good on her.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-02 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
She's Hollywood, she'll just get a nip-tuck surgery for any saggy skin and flappy muscles.
